The British term for flashlight is torch...
On the heels of the much ballyhooed Fenway Park Pizza Incident, ESPN.com brings to our attention the Shea Stadium Flashlight Massacre
This interesting foray into New York City sports (okay, it's in Queens, they're kind of odd out there) brings us some guy at Shea Stadium using a flashlight to try and distract two Atlanta Braves players during a Mets game Friday night. The man got arrested for interference with a professional sporting event and second-degree reckless endangerment. He's lucky Homeland Security didn't pick him up, seeing as how Shea is famously close to LaGuardia Airport.
(As a side note, make sure when you read the article about the Mets' guy to check out Calvin Klein's and Latrell Sprewell's roles in creating the law in the first place.)
Still, while the Shea incident is kind of amusing, it doesn't hold a candle (no pun intended, just a convenient cliché) to the first game I saw at Yankee Stadium (no surprise there) where not one, not two, but three, count 'em, three boneheads lit their hair on fire in the centerfield bleachers. I was about, oh, I don't know, 10-years-old at the time and with my dad. It really made an impression on me and my dad. It was the first time either one of us stepped inside the "House That Ruth Built" and what a show...
For what it's worth, the Yankees lost 2-1 to the Chicago White Sox. Oh yeah, and the Phils finally pulled their collective heads out of their ass and finally won a game. Thank God for small miracles.
